Hall Of Fame galloper Happy Trails will long be remembered for the amazing ride he took connections on throughout his 65-start career.
A three-time Group 1 winner, Roy as he was affectionally known was purchased for just $11,000 and raced at the elite level on 35 occasions winning the 2012 Emirates Stakes, 2013 Turnbull Stakes and 2014 Mackinnon Stakes and banking more than $3.2m in prizemoney.
Raced by the Dickmann family and Peter Swanell, he was also placed five times at Group 1 level including his agonising second placing in the 2013 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley won by Shamus Award.
"He just fronted up and fronted up. An absolute champion he was," trainer Paul Beshara remembered.
"The whole ride was amazing but I will never forget when he won the Turnbull (2013).
"He beat Puissance de Lune when he was rated one of the best horses in the country at the time and the favourite for the Melbourne Cup.
"Fiorente was in that race the year he won the Melbourne Cup.
"He beat Fawkner before he won his Caulfield Cup, He's Your Man after he won an Epsom and Green Moon when he won the Melbourne Cup too.
"He gave us an amazing ride,” he said.
